Nick started out in live sound but moved into music production with the humble four track, Atari ST and and Korg M1, gaining success as part of production duo DNA with the 1991 hit Tom’s Diner - the Suzanne Vega remix.
There followed a string of remixes and production credits (Kylie Minogue, Electronic, Ryuichi Sakamoto, The The, Jesus Jones) with worldwide chart successes for a variety of artists. During the CDROM era, he worked as sound designer for Cannes Multimedia Festival Gold award winning CD ROMs PAWS and Peter Gabriel’s EVE.
After which, he began a long standing collaboration with UK art-pop act Goldfrapp, with programming and production on Felt Mountain (gold), then Grammy nominated Black Cherry (platinum) on which he co-wrote the Ivor Novello winning Strict Machine and Ride a White Horse. Getting back into Remixing in 2000, DNA produced several mixes for Warners and Interscope with Loreena McKennit’s Mummer’s Dance reaching No1 in the US Hot 100 airplay charts.
In the meantime he co-founded
Sonicstate.com which has become a highly respected authority on many aspects of electronic music production and equipment.
Sonicstate.com continues to produce regular video reviews, features and interviews. Nick is regularly consulted on aspects of instrument design by major manufacturers and still works with Goldfrapp as well as playing the occasional live gig.
